Star Wars: Oga's Cantina
Oga’s Cantina at Galaxy’s Edge is easily the second best experience, aside from Rise of the Resistance. You can make reservations in advance or join a standby line. When we visited, the standby line was maybe 20 people long around 5:00pm, and moved very quickly. We waited about ten minutes to get in. The staff will inform you that you’ll have a 45-minute window to enjoy your drinks, but we managed to stay an hour without anyone making a fuss. I suspect the rules are flexible depending on crowd levels.
The Fuzzy Tauntaun
“It's so good, once it hits your lips, it's so good.” – Frank, the Tank.
If you only try one cocktail, make it this one. The Fuzzy Tauntaun is a citrusy blend of peach vodka, peach schnapps, and orange juice, topped with sugar and some special narcotic-like foam that makes your lips and tongue slightly numb. It sort of feels like your lips are tingling or vibrating, 10/10, very fun.
At the cantina, the drinks are poured directly from taps, which appear to be repurposed heads of IG assassin droids. The tap handles are also detailed with familiar motifs. There are a million other tiny details and easter eggs from the films to take in during your visit and the staff encourage you to walk around to see them all.
The Bespin Fizz
Second round, Mike ordered a Bespin Fizz, a concoction of rum, yuzu purée, pomegranate juice, white cranberry juice, and a cloud swirl (dry ice). Very berry flavored but not too sweet.
The wafts of ice fog pouring over the edge of the glass was extremely cool. This is exactly what I imagine a space bar serving.
The Yub Nub
The Yub Nub is a very tropical, sweet libation. It’s a blend of Malibu pineapple rum, Sailor Jerry spiced rum, fruit juice, and passion fruit.
But the best part is that it comes in a tiki mug covered in carvings that recount the Battle of Endor. You have the option to take the mug home for an extra charge, if you want.
I've outrun Imperial starships, not the local bulk-cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's fast enough for you, old man. What's the cargo?
Mike also ordered a Jet Juice (not pictured), comprised of Maker’s Mark bourbon, Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, Cedilla açaí liqueur, white grape juice, and lemon. It was deliciously tart and spicy.
The bartenders here are all in high spirits, happy to serve up rainbow colored cocktails to overjoyed nerds in what honestly amounts to an adult version of Chuck E. Cheese. You gotta love that. There’s even a few jolly drinking songs that involve bartender/audience participation with lots of chants and salutes. And if you order the Rancor beer flight, the most expensive offering from the menu, the crowd will loudly cheer you on.
Unfortunately, you won’t find Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes here in Oga’s, but you WILL hear the classic cantina theme we all know and love, courtesy of a very talented droid. DJ R-3X will play an eclectic mix of electronic house music, but throw the cantina theme it into the mix every now and again. When that happens, a bar packed with die hard, liquored up Star Wars fans goes absolutely wild. As they should.
For Disney aficionados, you might recognize R-3X as the shuttle pilot from the original Star Tours ride. Speaking of Star Tours…
We did eventually leave Galaxy’s Edge to venture out into Hollywood Studios. We had a fantastic ride on Star Tours and a thrilling visit at Tower of Terror. All in all, a perfect day in a galaxy far, far away.
Next up, Epcot!
