Backyard Gardening Fun: Part 4

Backyard Gardening Fun: Part 4

Another update from the garden! (Previous updates: 1, 2, and 3.) There's color bursting around every turn. Bright reds and fiery oranges and golden yellows everywhere. Not bad for never having had a green thumb.

The Big Beef and Brandywine tomatoes are finally ripening. You can't tell by the photo here but this one Big Beef is as large as my face. Larger than a hamburger patty if you were to slice it.

I tried to put it into Mike's hands but he has big hands so it doesn't really show scale. So then I placed it next to a regular sized Brandywine. Now you get the idea.

We also harvested a ton of green beans and I made a pretty damn good green bean casserole.

Peas have turned out nicely. We might throw these into a stir fry.

IMG_1707.jpg

Cayenne peppers are also turning a gorgeous bright red!

Here are a bunch of baby habanero peppers!

IMG_1712.jpg

And some seriously hot ghost peppers. We're going to need gloves to handle them.

Life hack: when you run out of room to store everything, garden vegetables make great centerpieces for your table.

Which also means we have to find creative ways of eating it all. To start, here's a beautiful salad created from tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell pepper, a dash of olive oil, chives, parsley, scallions, and a handful of feta.

And here's fresh snack plate of salted tomatoes with cucumber slices.

Last but not least, our sunflowers are higher than the fence! Higher than me, even. Hopefully they'll bloom soon!
