Backyard Gardening Fun: Part 3

Backyard Gardening Fun: Part 3

The first and second parts of our backyard garden adventures are recapped, if you're following along. Here's where we are at the end of July.

IMG_1452.jpg

Kind of hard to believe this was all just dirt a few months ago.

IMG_1453.jpg

The Sun Sugar plant went insane, as expected. The fence can't even handle it right now.

IMG_1261.jpg

The Big Beef and Brandywine tomatoes are popping out dozens of fruit.

IMG_1264.jpg

You can't tell the size here, but this big beef tomato is nearly as big as my head.

IMG_1279.jpg

Brandywine is looking quite fine.

IMG_1280.jpg

The Fletcher tomato is still weird looking.

IMG_1571.jpg

The Sun Sugar cherries are the first to ripen. They turn a lovely marigold yellow color.

IMG_1570.jpg

Mike gave the first one a taste test. They're delicious! They have a sweet citrus flavor to them.

IMG_1443.jpg

The herb garden has filled out and we've been clipping fresh chives and cilantro for our meals.

IMG_1268.jpg

Did I mention we have mint? This is strawberry mint.

IMG_1274.jpg

AND THE STRAWBERRIES ARRIVED!!! They were bare for what seemed like forever but they finally blossomed and we've got a few berries turning now.

IMG_1438.jpg

The first zucchini have matured.

IMG_1444.jpg

As well as the first cucumbers.

IMG_1557.jpg

We have peas now. Lots of peas.

IMG_1551.jpg

And green beans.

IMG_1568.jpg

The beets are getting big.

IMG_1553.jpg

And so are the carrots. I think, anyway. Hard to tell from above ground.

IMG_1555.jpg

We now have over two dozen jalapeños.

IMG_1563.jpg

The bell peppers are ripening. This one's turning yellow very slowly.

IMG_1565.jpg

Here's the cayenne peppers.
